The Republic of Zambia is located in Southern Africa, and most visitors who aren't on a business trip (and many who are) will be there to view the majestic Victoria Falls, one of the highest and most dramatic waterfalls in the world (it is twice the height of Niagara Falls). But, whether you are there on business or pleasure, there is more to Zambia than the Falls - the country offers a range of entertainment options, such as excellent opportunities for big-game viewing on safari and an extensive nightlife, including a number of casinos for those wishing to try their luck at gambling.
Two of the Zambia casinos are in Livingstone, a city of nearly 100,000 people and a major tourist center due to its location just six miles from the Victoria Falls.
The New Fairmount Hotel and Casino offers visitors 30 slot machines and five gaming tables, with a choice of blackjack, poker, and roulette. It is open from 8 pm to 3 am and is part of a 102-room hotel and resort, with a restaurant and leisure facilities including squash and a swimming pool.
The Falls Casino, on Mosi oa Tunya Road, is smaller, with 77 slot machines and it is open from 10 am to midnight.
The other Zambia casinos are in Lusaka, the country's capital (since 1964) and largest city. Lusaka is located to the south of the center of the country and has a population of well over one million people. The main casino where visitors can gamble the night away is the Majestic Casino, located on Kafue Road in the suburb of Makeni. It offers 60 slot machines and a number of gaming tables. The slots are open from 11 am to 12 midnight, whilst the gaming tables (playing blackjack and roulette) start at 7 pm and continue through to 4 am. The complex enjoys the facilities of a very popular bar.
Lusaka offers some more intimate casinos, such as the one located in the Polo Grill, overlooking the Lusaka Polo Club, or the ones in the Lusaka Hotel on Katonodo Road and in the Ridgeway Hotel. These tend to offer a smaller selection of games, or just slot machines.
So, when you have had enough of watching Victoria Falls, just a few miles away, you can experience your own highs and lows in one of Zambia's many casinos. Just remember that when in Zambia casinos your pockets might not be as deep as the Zambezi River!
